November General Meeting: Dale Becker
@ Join us on November 9 as we welcome our guest speaker, wildlife biologist Dale Becker. Dale grew up on a farm in western Iowa and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in wildlife biology before beginning his career as a wildlife biologist and manager. From 1989 to 2021, Dale worked as the tribal wildlife program manager for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana, where he was responsible for program management, policy development and oversight, budgeting, personnel management, hydroelectric and highway mitigation planning, wildlife and habitat management, and wildlife species reintroductions. During his tenure, he often worked closely with tribal elders and cultural leaders and valued the knowledge and experience they brought to wildlife issues. Dale has served as president of the Montana chapter of The Wildlife Society, president of the Trumpeter Swan Society, a board member of the Montana Wildlife Federation, a member of the Vital Ground Foundation's board of trustees, and a tribal representative on interagency wildlife and habitat working groups and committees. Dale's interests, in addition to wildlife conservation issues, include visiting and learning about historical sites, particularly those with Indigenous pictographs and petroglyphs. He has visited numerous such locations across the western United States and values what they reveal about the history of the Indigenous peoples of these regions. For those coming to the meeting in person, we'll meet in Room 26 of the Gateway Mall (United Way building) at 7pm. This room is on the east side of the building along Glenwood Drive in Kalispell. Look for our banner outside. For those joining virtually, when you use the link, you will eventually be let into a "waiting room" where you will then be added to the meeting by the host. Please sign in with your name when you enter the room so we know to admit you. You will be muted when you first join the meeting. You can use your computer's microphone and speakers (most computers have both), and this is the preferred way to join. You can also get an audio connection to the meeting without the Zoom visual capability by using your phone.
