General Meeting: West Valley Birds & History

@ Join us at the September 14 meeting as we welcome Dick Walker for an engaging slide show about migrating birds, wildlife, and the farm crops that attract them to the West Valley. Dick will also share a glimpse of the farmers who tend the land, and of us, their neighbors, who are drawn to the area by the wildlife it attracts and its quiet, subtle beauty. Dick Walker moved to the Flathead Valley from eastern Montana in 1978. He has worn many hats in his life, including farm kid, veteran, husband, father, ranch hand, heavy construction worker, hiker, paddler, hunter, and outdoor photographer. His attachment to the West Valley started post-retirement during a five-year period when he volunteered to count migrating waterfowl for Gael Bissell, then with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. He still covers the same route every day and is still dazzled by the wildlife and beauty of the area. He always has his camera, binoculars, and dog with him. Together, they sit and watch, but sometimes they visit with farmers or birders, tourists, and a few lost souls. When the people move on, Dick and his dog return to watching. This slide show is what they see. For those coming to the meeting in person, we'll meet in Room 26 of the Gateway Mall (United Way building) at 7pm. This room is on the east side of the building along Glenwood Drive in Kalispell. Look for our banner outside. For those joining virtually, when you use the link, you will eventually be let into a "waiting room" where you will then be added to the meeting by the host. Please sign in with your name when you enter the room so we know to admit you. You will be muted when you first join the meeting. You can use your computer's microphone and speakers (most computers have both), and this is the preferred way to join. You can also get an audio connection to the meeting without the Zoom visual capability by using your phone.
