WIEC AI Lab: A Beginner's Guide to Building Web Apps with AI

Join WIEC for a beginner-friendly, hands-on AI Lab focused on building a simple web app with the help of AI. In this session, Kevin Fremon will guide participants through the first steps of turning an idea into a small, focused web app. The Lab will cover the foundations of getting started, including how to prepare your computer, understand the tools and services involved, create a clear plan for your app, and begin building with an AI coding tool. Participants will learn how to create a simple product requirements document, or PRD, that outlines what the app should do, who it is for, and what to build first. From there, they will use that plan to begin building, run the app locally, and make early improvements with AI support. The goal is for participants to leave with the foundation for a simple micro app that runs on their own computer and can be continued after the Lab. This session is designed for beginners, but it is hands-on. Each participant should bring a laptop and charger. Participants will also need an active subscription that includes access to Claude or Codex and should be ready to sign in on their laptop. Only one of these tools is needed. Admission is free, but an RSVP is required. AI tool subscriptions are separate and are not included.
